Gary Logan, Gerry Trentham and Lisa Beley have taught and researched together at Canada's National Voice Intensive for over two decades. They each share their advanced knowledge of Linklater voice work honed in tandem with their individual expertise in text, movement, speech, directing, acting, voice coaching and performance creation.

The workshop is open to all levels. Seasoned actors and advanced performance students are invited to renew and revitalize their craft. Directors and playwrights can gain a more profound understanding of the actor’s craft as well as a new organic process for their work. Dancers and movers and performance artists can expect to find a deeper connection to their own bodies through the window of their resonant voices. Students will develop new tools for their toolbox. Voice and drama teachers will acquire new approaches to enrich their teaching.

Participants should be prepared to arrive with memorized monologue text and be available to spend the full day including the short lunch break dedicated to integrating new learning. Participants are welcome to bring text that interests them including western classical monologues, culturally rooted texts and monologues, or contemporary play monologues.

VI Founder and master teacher David Smukler brings over fifty years of voice training research and expertise together with principles from Diane Roberts’ ground breaking Arrivals Legacy Project (www.arrivalslegacy.com), which draws on personal legacy and ancestry as a jump off point for creative expression; and Gerry Trentham’s innovative Butoh Voice performance pedagogy that he has co-created over years with Canada’s premiere Butoh artists Denise Fujiwara. Participants will have an opportunity to develop skills and to take part in the cutting edge pedagogical research into contemporary voice/body training.

During the workshop, you will have opportunities to:
• develop a deeper understanding of your unique breath and ‘core’ voice
• foster a tangible awareness of your own vocal and physical potential
• explore a wealth of tools for accessing your physical, emotional, psychological,
intellectual resources
• deepen your ability to be present in a full and meaningful relationship with yourself, your scene partner and your audience

This workshop is open to performing artists (storytellers, actors, singers, dancers, poets, spoken word artists etc…) and those interested in exploring their authentic, and fully embodied, vocal potential.

Seasoned actors and advanced performance students are invited to renew and revitalize their craft. • We will also provide you with two contrasting pieces which will be used as common texts in the workshop (for 1 day and 3 day workshop)

During:
• The studios can vary in temperature so dress in layers. We will be working in bare feet for the most part. Bring your own water bottles and stay hydrated.
• Arrive to each session, including warm up, early so that you can give yourself time to transition from one state to the next
